Laser Behavior

Detection System

  • Lasers continuously monitor for player crossings

  • When a player crosses the laser beam, detection is triggered

  • There is a 5-second cooldown between detections to prevent spam

Notification System

Civilian Lasers (laser_device)

  • When triggered, only the laser owner receives a notification

  • Notification: "Your laser (ID: [laserId]) has been triggered!"

Police Lasers (laser_devicepol)

  • When triggered, two notifications are sent:

    1. The laser owner receives a notification

    2. All on-duty police officers receive a notification

  • Police notification: "Police Laser System Breach Detected \n Laser Id: [laserId]"

Visual Elements

  • Laser Line: A visible red line drawn between start and end points

  • CCTV Camera: A camera prop (prop_cctv_cam_07a) spawns at the start point

  • Distance Rendering: Lasers are only rendered when players are within 50 units

Removing Lasers

Step 1: Use Laser Remover

  1. Open your inventory

  2. Find the laser_remover item

  3. Use/activate the item

Step 2: Automatic Removal

  1. The script automatically finds the closest laser to your position

  2. The laser is removed from:

    • The active laser list

    • The database (if it was saved)

    • The ownership registry

  3. The CCTV camera prop is also deleted

  4. The item is consumed from your inventory

Note: You can only remove lasers that are within range. Make sure you're close to the laser you want to remove.

Tips and Best Practices

Placement Tips

  1. Height Consideration: Place lasers at appropriate heights to detect players walking through doorways or corridors

  2. Strategic Locations: Place lasers at:

    • Door entrances

    • Hallway chokepoints

    • Vault or secure area entrances

    • Property perimeters

  3. Multiple Layers: Create multiple lasers in sequence for enhanced security

  4. Testing: Use temporary placement (press E) to test laser positions before making them permanent

Security Tips

  1. Hidden Placement: Place lasers in less obvious locations to catch intruders off-guard

  2. Multiple Angles: Use multiple lasers at different angles to cover more area

  3. Police Coordination: Use police lasers for official security operations

  4. Regular Maintenance: Check your lasers periodically to ensure they're still active

Performance Tips

  1. Limit Quantity: Don't place too many lasers as they can impact performance

  2. Distance Management: Lasers automatically optimize rendering based on distance

  3. Clean Up: Remove unused lasers to keep the database clean

Troubleshooting

Laser Not Placing

  • Ensure you have the item in your inventory

  • Check that you're not in a restricted area

  • Verify the item was consumed (check inventory)

  • Check server console for errors

Laser Not Detecting

  • Verify the laser is active (visible red line)

  • Check that players are crossing at the correct height

  • Ensure the laser wasn't removed

  • Check server console for detection messages

Laser Not Visible

  • Move closer to the laser (renders within 50 units)

  • Check that the laser wasn't removed

  • Verify the laser is in the database (if it should be permanent)

  • Restart the resource if needed

Notifications Not Working

  • For police lasers: Verify you're on-duty as a police officer

  • Check that the laser owner is online (for owner notifications)

  • Verify the laser ID matches in the database

  • Check server console for notification errors
